In 2003, this inaugural Joe opened on this iconic corner where Waverly Place meets Gay street. A real neighborhood spot, Joe's customers are a great mix of artists, photographers, writers, students and tourists.
Jeff moved here from SF. He lived in Cali all his life before making the trek cross country to NYC. Before working for Joe, Jeff worked at Ritual Coffee in SF as a barista and trainer. Besides making coffee, he likes to take pictures. We're sure that's an understatement, and will get to the bottom of this mystery. Jeff sports a wicked David Crosby mustache, which is the envy of all the other baristi. Apparently he likes beer.
I study Psychology and Musical Theatre at the New School. I am an RA at the 13th Street Residence Hall and am proud to be the first trans female to be an RA at The New School. I am so excited and happy to be at Joe! My mom always used to take me with her to get coffee at her favorite stops in San Diego, CA . I hope to continue to work at Joe for as long as I can as I think everybody there is a great second family to have!
Cristobal grew up in San Juan, PR. A very quiet boy reading graphic novels and obsessing over Buffy. Moved to NY in '08. Now I can be found reading, writing and philosophizing, spending all my tip money on a wonderful drag queen, taking thrifting to hoarder-like heights, riding my bike somewhere in Brooklyn, working a set somewhere -on production freelancer extravaganza days, serving you some delish coffee, drinking 'pocillo' with my mom and lounging somewhere in Culebra, PR my favorite place.
Patty is a kind, good-natured, and helpful sort of person. She received her MFA in 2012 from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Previously, she spent many years peering out from behind an espresso machine at Alterra Coffee Roasters (Milwaukee, WI) and Kopplin’s Coffee (St. Paul, MN). When she and her partner moved to NYC, her kind and helpful friend Liz C. encouraged her to apply at Joe. Patty is very glad she took Liz C.’s advice.
Amy R. has Swedish blood, and, therefore, coffee running through her veins. While she doesn't like that she needs the daily intake of caffeine to avoid a life-stopping headache, she really enjoys a good cup of chemex-brewed coffee in the morning. Or three. Amy is a puppeteer and graphic designer who loves to walk her dog Ohren as much as she loves to greet a friendly face at Joe.
